Ride LEVELS

All rides are classified according to their difficulty and suitability for different types of riders.  The main parameters are the distance of the ride, the amount of climbing involved, and the average speed.

Up to 70 km distance

Average speed 17-20 kph

Mostly Flat

RELAXED

Riders will be able to appreciate their surroundings, with frequent rest and food stops plus socialising.  Relaxed rides are typically no longer than 70 km and at an easier pace, with an average speed of 17-20 kph for a flat ride (lower on more hilly rides). These rides are accessible to any reasonably fit rider who can cycle at least 30 km.

Between 70-120 km distance

Average speed 20-25 kph

Quite Hilly

MODERATE

Riders will be able to enjoy medium to longer routes (typically 70 - 120 km) that may include steep hills.  There will be stops for coffee and food, depending on distance.  Moderate rides are at an intermediate pace, with an average speed of 20-25 kph for a flat ride (lower on hilly rides). Suitable for regular riders on most types of bikes; probably not suitable for mountain bikes.

Between 70-165 km distance

Average speed 25 kph

Very Hilly

CHALLENGING

Experienced riders will be able to push themselves on a fast training ride that may include steep hills and longer distances.  There will be brief stops for coffee and food, depending on distance.  Challenging rides are at a faster pace, with an average pace of 25 kph for a flat ride (lower on hilly rides).  Suitable for fit riders on road bikes only.
