Welcome to CycleOut London

We had a total of 5 riders for the London to Bath ride yesterday with one cancellation and one no-show. It actually worked much better with this smaller group, especially as each of them were good endurance cyclists.

Overall we cycled 105 miles taking a very cross country ride which was scenic and quiet pretty much throughout. We started off at a fast pace from Windsor and had stops on route at Pangbourne, Hungerford and Devizes. On route we saw the Thames, Kennet and Avon Canal, White Horse and perhaps most impressive the Caen Hill lock flight at Devizes. We had just the one puncture on the whole route.

Everybody on the ride had their struggles at times including myself with a back issue in the afternoon but we all made it to Bath just before 8pm where we went to a CTC friendly pub serving real ales and pie and mash, and Gavin and I were even treated to free drinks as they were so impressed with our efforts.

We thought the adventure was over at this point, but good old First Great Western added a bit of spice at the end of the evening as Sam, Yves, Gavin and I tried to get on the 2nd to last train back to London at 10pm only to find that there was only 1 space available and no-body available to help make a reservation. Gavin, Yves and I then had to wait and hope (and we even drew lots for who would sleep on the platform) as the very last train of the day to pulled in and luckily they were able to accommodate us all - was a bit of a relief - but getting home at midnight made it probably the most adventurous CycleOut ride I have been on!!

Riders were Gavin, Sam, Yves, Demetrio and myself.
