Welcome to CycleOut London

Ride report by Gavin.

After a night of heavy rain, Saturday was blessed with sunshine and, apart from the numerous puddles, near perfect riding conditions. Three riders started from Balham at 09.30 and met up with the the rest of the group at 10.00 in Croydon. It was particularly good to see Yves back on his first cycle out ride since his accident in early September, looking amazingly fit considering what he had been through.
All six of us made our way swiftly out of Croydon and we were soon out on the back roads over the North Downs. The Surrey countryside was looking fabulous in the autumnal mists and hazy sunshine. Despite a very minor accident, resulting in Russ getting a wet bottom and a grazed shin, we made good speed to our lunch stop, arriving at The Bell in Outwood at 12 noon. The sun was pleasantly warm enough that we could eat outside in comfort.
Lunch over, we headed north for the climb back up over the Downs. At the top we made an unscheduled tea and cake stop at Fanny's Farm, a famous and rather quirky cyclist tea-stop. Siutably fortified we pressed on through Chipstead, Woodmansterne down in to Carshalton, the suburbs back to Balham. All in all a great day, a decent pace, a couple of climbs and good company.
